Brief Bio

John William Carlson is an award-winning singer/songwriter from Holly Springs, North Carolina. He recently finished a week long writing session with 4 time Grammy Nominee, Darrell Scott at his ‘SongFood’ writer’s retreat in Nashville. Upon returning home, Carlson said, “I’ve written songs the better part of my life, but Darrell caused me see and hear things in my art and craft in a completely different light and context. I feel super-charged to write without limits.”

True to his upbringing, musically, John roams a lot of ranges from Americana, Folk, Country and Gospel to gritty slide blues. In a recent interview, John stated, ‘All music is good music to me.’ When pressed about writing original music, John said, ‘It just depends on the song. Ultimately, the song picks what it wants and needs to be and you just go with it’.

John is also a veteran of multiple Songwriting Retreats in Nashville and North Carolina hosted by Grammy Award Winner Phil Madeira (Emmylou Harris, Civil Wars, Alison Krauss). John has shared stages with Nashville Hall of Fame Songwriter, Richard Leigh, Country Artist Scotty McCreery, Acclaimed Singer/Songwriter Pierce Pettis and the late David Olney.
